Biography

Jack Ruby (born Rubenstein) was the son of Joseph Rubenstein and Fannie Turek Rutkowski (or Rokowsky) and was born with Chicago in 1911. His/her parents were of Polish origin and had immigrant in 1903.

Its birth date is dubious, Ruby while having given itself several. Fifth of a phratry of eight children, it had a disturbed childhood.

Ruby was useful in the army of the the United States during the Second world war, without fighting however. After its demobilization, it is established in Dallas in 1947 where him and his/her brothers changed their name into Ruby .

After various activities, it managed various nightclubs and of striptease, which put it in contact with the organized crime.

Ruby went on a journey to Cuba in 1959 and met there some of his/her friends of the Maffia.

Assassination of Oswald

Ruby regularly carried on him a revolver, undoubtedly because of the fact that it often transported rather important sums coming from its club.

After the arrest of Oswald, several witnesses transfer it in the offices of the police force, being sometimes made pass for a kind of journalist. He intervened on several occasions between journalists and official, benefitting from his relations with the police officers who came in his club. The majority of testimonys describe a man at the same time upset by the death of the President (it had decided to close its club), eager to emphasize himself, and anxious that the assassination can be allotted or related to the Jewish community (Ruby had been outraged that a name with Jewish consonance was related to the publication in the Dallas Morning News of a hostile scathing attack with Kennedy on November 21st). The morning of the Sunday, November 24, 1963, the transfer of Oswald towards the prison was to be done at 10 a.m. The transfer was however delayed first of all by a one hour interrogation carried out by the inspector as a chief of the post office (which had decided not to go to the church this day in order to try there to help the police force), then by Oswald itself which required of the last minute to be able to pass its black sweater to pass on TV.

During this time, one of the dancers of Ruby invited it in order to require of him to pour to him $25 for food and its rent. Ruby went to the downtown area to transfer the money to him. With its favorite dog, Sheba, in the car, it left its residence one hour after the hour to which Oswald should have been transferred. It carried out its payment and went to the police station, outside of which it had noticed a small crowd.

Whereas it arrived, a truck assembled the slope towards the garage while distracting keeps it, and it benefitted from it to enter the basement (it was however never excluded completely that a police officer knowing it let it enter).

When Oswald appeared one minute later, to 11 a.m. 21, Ruby was increased ahead and cut down it with the revolver which it had usually on him in order to protect the important amounts in liquid that it transported regularly ($2000 this day there). The transfer of Oswald was diffused on line on television, and the murder of Oswald was thus the first murder to forever be diffused on line.

Mobiles

Ruby affirmed later that it had killed Oswald on an act of madness to the moment even, though during its arrest, it affirmed with several police officers that this assassination would show in the world that the Jewish had stomach and that the death of Oswald would save the wife of the President, Jacqueline Kennedy, the suffering to have to appear with the lawsuit of the assassin of her husband.

It is undoubtedly necessary to see in the act of madness a tactic of posterior defense at the time of the assassination, where Ruby was sure to be congratulated (what it was besides by many American).

There however was debate about its motivations.

Some, particularly of the researchers estimating that there was conspiracy, believe that Ruby killed Oswald on order of the Maffia.

Lawsuit and imprisonment

Ruby was defended by Melvin Belli, a famous penalist.

The majority of the observers thought that Ruby would draw some with a judgment from murder without premeditation, which would have been worth a light judgment to him (maximum 5 years).

However, Belli at the same time tried to make cancel the lawsuit because, according to him, Ruby could not be judged equitably in Dallas, and to make pass its customer for insane.

The March 14th 1964, Ruby was condemned to the capital punishment for assassination.

Ruby was questioned by Members of the Warren Commission in his cell. Ruby begged them to make it transfer to Washington because it feared for its life. Some used these elements to allege that if Ruby felt threatened, it is although there was plot. In fact, Ruby expresses clearly that its fears go towards the organizations of extreme-right-hand side, enemy sworn of Kennedy (which had made publish the hostile article with Kennedy the day before his arrival in Dallas) which already made run the noise that the death of Kennedy was a plot, undoubtedly Jewish, of which Ruby formed part. One of great fears of Ruby was that these rumors make wrong to its family and the Jewish community.

The lawyer of Ruby ends up making recognize by a Court of Appeal which the lawsuit had been badly carried out because of its behavior in Dallas. Its death sentence was commuted in waiting of a new lawsuit.

Ruby died during its appeal of a pulmonary Embolie consecutive with a Cancer at the hospital of Parkland the January 3rd 1967. It is buried with the cemetery of Westlawn with Chicago. Its death was also sometimes allotted to a plot.
