Ru of Marivel
The Ru of Marivel takes its source with Versailles, in the district of Porchefontaine. It is thrown in the the Seine not far from the bridge of Sevres. It digs a basin then a valley of which the depth reaches more than 150 meters to its junction with the Seine. The slopes precipice are crowned in north by the Parc of Saint-Cloud (of which it supplies the basins) and the Forêt of False-Re-fixing, in the south by the forests of Meudon and Versailles. It has several affluents, of which some dug small valleys.
This small river, with the little known name, is partly at the origin of the site of Versailles. Before 1789, the valley had an major importance in the operation and the economy of the kingdom. The kings Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI borrowed it to go from Versailles from Paris. On October 5th and 6th 1789, 7.000 women in anger followed the bottom of the valley to Versailles where they seized the palate, badly protected by Fayette. It is by the same way that the royal family regained Paris, giving up Versailles forever.
In this valley some of the first passenger trains of the world circulated, connecting the capital to Versailles as from 1840.
Today, the Ru of Marivel is entirely covered. The Nationale 10 passes above. It is managed by the Intercommunity association of Cleansing of the Valley of the Ru of Marivel (SIARM) where seven communes among richest of France sit: Versailles, Vélizy-Villacoublay, Viroflay, Sevres, Chaville, Marnes-the-Vain, City-with Avray.
