Royas

Royas is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Royas, with the doors of St Jean-of-Bournay, is the smallest commune of the canton. It extends on both sides from two secondary roads: 518 (road of Lyon) and 502 (road of Vienna). The territory is strewn with hills, of a large plain, fields and of wood difficult of access. That makes a mainly rural commune of it. Presence of a mound far away from the village from less than 1 km and which dominates the valley of Gervonde. The agricultural dwellings and units are burst and are organized on the whole of the territory. The dwellings in the center of Royas are limited. However, for a few years the installation of many second home has appreciably made go up the figure of the population.

History

Royas belonged to mandement of the powerful lords of Beauvoir of Marc. The village and its surroundings had to suffer from the delphino-Savoyard wars, the lords seeming to take part for one or the other according to " the fortune of the armes". Between 1540 and 1600, at the time of the wars of religion, Royas was established with the ground limit belonging to the Protestant Count de Savoie and those of the catholic Dolphin. Confrontations had to take place in the plain of Royas, with the locality " Ayettes".
