History

It is the first work of long series of extremely S intended as well as possible to protect this strategic place which is the roads of Toulon, where a good part of the fleet of French war is concentrated. The range of its guns prohibiting to him to lock the access of the roads completely, it will be supplemented, one century and half later, by the Fort Balaguier, located in opposite, on the port of the Seyne-sur-Mer.

At the time of the war of 1707 and Head office of Toulon, it will actively be implied in the defense of the port. At the end of the 18th century, its strategic role will grow blurred little by little (other forts, more effective, replaced it) and it will fulfill especially the function of prison and/or military warehouse.

Since 1951, it was reconverted in museum of the Navy.
