Royal philharmonic orchestra of Stockholm

the royal Philharmonic orchestra of Stockholm (in Swedish Kungliga Filharmonikerna or Kungliga Filharmoniska Orkestern ), is one of the principal orchestras of Sweden.

History

The orchestra is founded in 1902 under the name of " Company in the concerts of Stockholm" ( Konsertföreningens orkester ). From 1957 to 1992, the orchestra is called Philharmonic orchestra of Stockholm ( Stockholms Filharmoniska Orkester ) before taking its current name.

The formation became a permanent whole in 1914. It occurs since 1926 in the room in the concerts of Stockholm ( Konserthuset ). The formation gathers 104 musicians.

The orchestra renews each year its repertory and spends often ahead works of certain type-setters, such Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt, Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutosławski, Kaija Saariaho, Sofia Goubaïdoulina, Esa-Pekka Salonen, John Adams and the last year Hans Werner Henze.
