Royal palace of Queluz

The royal palace of Queluz is a castle located at a few 10 kilometers of the town of Lisbon builds at the 18th century.

History

The first palate built on the site of Queluz goes back to 1640. Infante Gift Pietro, the king of Portugal, ordered the construction of the palate which we know today. Work began in 1747 and finished at the end of the XVIIIe century, in 1790. Queluz is another perfect counterpart of Versailles, just like Schönbrunn, Peterhof or Sanssouci. Curiously, the Portuguese palate was built in French the Baroque style! Mateus Vicente was the architect of the palate. Jean finished Robillon Baptist, in 1760, the western wing of the palate and undertook the decoration of the famous throne room. The prince regent Regent Joao and his wife Carlota Joaquina habitiaent in Quluz since their main home, the castle of Ajuda, had took fire in 1794. In 1807, the king and the queen left the royal palace of Queluz. Now, the palate cannot be visited by the public.

Site, establishment and gardens

The royal palace of Queluz is located at nearly 10 kilometers of Lisbon in a large park. The fountains are numerous there. Apparently, the establishment of the palate and its gardens were very complicated and required years of work to arrive there.

The palate

Enough small, the royal palace is however of a great beauty.
