The royal order of Saint-Sava is a Serb decoration founded in 1883 by Milan I {{er}} of Serbia, for sciences and arts. It is then divided into five classes: Grand Cross, large-officer, commander, officer and knight. However, during the First World War, the king Pierre I {{er}}, also allotted it on a purely military basis.

Description

Cross, bearing in its center the portrait of Holy Sava, first Archbishop of the Serb Church. One can read around the portrait an inscription in old Cyrillic characters: By its labor surmounts all . The portrait of Sava saint knew various alternatives, in particular the color of the coat. With the reverse, were in the beginning, initial the SEMI , girded of a blue laurel wreath. As of 1904, king Pierre Ier substituted for it the date 1883 .

During its setting-up, decoration was manufactured with Vienna by the goldsmiths Scheid and Fismeister. Of 1915 with 1921, it is Arthus Bertrand which takes again manufacture. Lastly, of 1921 with 1941, it is the goldsmith Suisse Huguenin brothers who ensures the realization of it.
