Royal edict
Under the Old Mode, a royal edict is a law on a new subject. Contrary to the ordinance, the edict relates only to one subject, can relate to only one group of people or that part of the kingdom.
The edicts were dated from the month and the year. They were sealed seal of green wax with green and red silk lakes.

- Edict of Amboise of 1563
- Edict of Nantes of 1598
- Edict of Fontainebleau of 1685 which revokes the precedent
