Royal Jordanian

Royal Jordanian (Code AITA RJ ) is the national Airline company of the Jordan - created in 1963 under the name of Alia (by royal decree of Hussein of Jordan which chose the name of his/her daughter). Two Handley Page Dart Heralds and a DC-7 are then used.

In 1964, another DC-7 is added what allows the inauguration of a service towards Djeddah, in Saudi Arabia. The following year a connection is established with Rome.

All the projection of the company is threatened by an Israeli air raid, at the time of the war of 1967, the DC-7 are destroyed and replaced by two Fokker F27. In 1968, are added the destinations of Nicosie, Benghazi, Dharan and Doha. The extensions towards Munich, Teheran and Istanbul are done in 1969.

In the years 1970, Alia passes to the air of the jet. F-27 are replaced by a Boeing 707. In 1970, Frankfurt and Abou Dabi are added and the 707 is delivered in 1971. Madrid, Copenhagen and Karachi this same year. In the following years, Alia adds to its fleet Boeing 720, Boeing 727 and Boeing 747. In 1979, Alia founds Arab Airlines Technical Consortium .

Years 1980 mark the reorganization of the company. Tunis and Tripoli are connected and center an inaugurated IBM computer. a Lockheed L-1011 and Airbus A310 and A320 join the fleet in 1986. Exchange its name in Royal Jordanian combined. This decade sees also the opening of the system of reservation GATS (Gabriel Automated Ticket System).

The expansion continues in the years 1990. Royal Jordanian and nine other Arab airline companies sign with the system of reservation Galileo, a new terminal is opened with Amman, a connection with open Gaza making Royal Jordanian the first company be flown towards the new international airport of Gaza. Finally a partnership passed with TWA and a local subsidiary company, Royal Wings, start the only private service, towards Aqaba, using Fokker F-27.

Royal Jordanian becomes a joint stock company in 2001 and the name is officially changed into Alia, The Royal Jordanian Airline although she is always known by her customer like Royal Jordanian .

She wishes to join Oneworld at the end of 2006, at the beginning of 2007.
