The Chansonnier S, all amateurs, form a original Confrérie by her style of expression, but also by the friendship without fault which links all its members. Philosophical neutrality and policy are there of rigor. All work voluntarily with the defense and the promotion of Picardy the tournaisien through an abundant literary production. Songs, monologs and poems are registered with the programme of two cycles of small cabarets given to the Market to Cloths in January and in March of each year.
These small cabarets are reserved, exclusively, with the representatives of the male sex. This rule does not suffer any exemption and is explained by the fact why in 1907 only the men attended the Cabaret S. Même if times changed, the Royal Company intends to keep this tradition jealously.
The ladies and the young ladies therefore are not forgotten since they are invited to applaud the chansonniers the large cabarets of October which have as a framework the Room Jean Noté of the House of the Culture For several years, the members of the Royal Company, with the assistance of the brotherhood of Rambilles and several talented musicians, have made these large cabarets a spectacle with whole share, direct heir to the famous reviews of antan.
The Royal Company also endeavors to promote the literature of Picardy expression by organizing each year the Prayez contest founded in 1927 in homage to one of its more famous founders. This contest, true “fish pond” from where result good number of our chansonniers, in is, in 2007, with its 75ème edition.
At the beginning of this year, the Cabaret comes to admit definitively its 92ème and 93ème chansonniers! The team thus comprises sixteen members including thirteen on the pontoon. They compose and sing, accompanied with the piano by their President Philippe De Smet, many original works where the topicality, poetry, the love of the soil, but also, of course, humor and satirical liveliness are expressed in an absolutely single environment!
Guardian of the traditions and proud of her glorious last, the Royal Company remains faithful to her ideal. Always young person and dynamic in spite of its 99 springs it is on the point of celebrating soon with all her friends and sympathizers his hundredth birthday.
