Royal Burgh
A royal burgh ( Royal burgh in English) is a burgh of Scotland founded or bought by a royal charter. This name was officially abolished in 1975, but actually remains current in number of them.

- Berwick-upon-Tweed
- Edinburgh
- Dunfermline
- Elgin
- Forres
- Linlithgow
- Montrose
- Peebles
- Perth (which had a precedence of all the others burghs royal except Edinburgh)
- Rutherglen
- Roxburgh (its statute was revoked thereafter because of the disappearance of the original city, become simple hamlet)
- Stirling
