Roy Sheaths
Roy Gaines is a Guitariste and Chanteur of Blues born the August 12th 1937 with Waskom (Texas) with the the United States.
Biography
Its family moves in Houston when it is 6 years old. He is the brother of the saxophonist Grady Gaines. Very young person, Roy Gaines starts to exploit of the piano the style of Nat King Cole. It binds friendship with other local musicians like Clarence Hollimon and Johnny Copeland. To adolescence, it turns to the guitar and starts to play in the clubs of Houston. It meets its " héros" T-Bone Walker in 1951 and goes then to Los Angeles (where it integrates the group of Roy Milton), and attends the university of Monterey (where it learns the harmonies…). In 1955, it is reproduced on various recordings of Big Mama Thornton, Jr. Parker (" Driving Me Mad") and Bobby " Blue" Band (" It' S My Life Baby" & " Woke Up Screaming").At that time, Roy starts to work for Chuck Willis in New York City and records for Atlantic Records in 1956, for " Deluxe Records" in 1957 and " RCA" in 1958. The Sixties see only 2 recordings on the small labels " LED-Fi" and " Uni". Chuck Willis dies in 1958 and Roy continues its work of musician of session, of which " Essential Jimmy Rushing " in 1954, " Wail blues: Coleman Hawkins Plays the Blues" in 1957 or with Billie Holiday. He also works with The Jazz Crusaders (1961) and integrates the big band Ray Charles in 1966, for which he writes " No Use Cryin'" on the album " Crying Time".
In the Seventies, Roy Gaines again made many appearances in solo or with Crusaders (1978). it continues its work of musician of session for Aretha Franklin, Della Reese, The Supremes. It appears on the album " My Cherie Amour" of Stevie Wonder, " Green Onions" of Milt Buckner (1975) and " Albert" of Albert King (1976). It continues to work with T-Bone Walker until the death of this one in 1975. It takes share with the concert of Harry Belafonte with Las Vegas in 1976. In 1976, it turns with the Supreme ones to South America, and with Diana Ross into 1977 in the USA, or with The Everly Brothers in Quebec. He works for the cinema and television with Quincy Jones. In 1982, it records traditional the " Gainelining". He writes " Don' T Make Me No Never Mind" for the music of the film the color crimson (1985), where he plays a small role. it will be necessary to wait until 1996 for the publication of a new disc solo " Lucile Works For Me". Will follow an album on " JSP" , a disc-homage to T-Bone Walker for " Groove Note" , then a new album for " Severn".
