Rova saxophone four-bit byte

Rova saxophone four-bit byte or more simply Rova is a quartet of Saxophone S created with San Francisco in 1977. It is composed of Jon Raskin (baritone, viola, soprano, sopranino), Larry Ochs (tenor, viola, soprano, sopranino), Andrew Voigt (viola, soprano, sopranino) and Bruce Ackley (soprano, tenor). In 1988, Andrew Voigt leaves the group and is replaced by Steve Adams (viola, baritone, sopranino).

Not hesitating to recreate traditional Jazz as those of John Coltrane (it recorded two versions of Rise with two different formations, one acoustic, the other electric one) or of Miles Davis (with the unit Yo Miles! of Wadada Leo Smith and Henry Kaiser), it plays primarily of the parts composed by its members or the works ordered from many contemporary type-setters, inter alia with: Anthony Braxton, Alvine Curran, Terry Riley, Barry Guy, Fred Frith, Lindsay Cooper, Satoko Fujii etc
