Routledge

Routledge is a Publisher Britannique of works Universitaires. A majority of the books of Routledge touch with the Social sciences and the Social sciences. Routledge belongs to the group Taylor and Francis, which is a subdivision of Informed plc, a company founded with the the United Kingdom.

History

Under the name of Camden Publishing, this publisher appeared in 1836, when George Routledge (1812-1888) founded a company with W.H. Warne. With Frederick Warne is created in 1851 George Routledge and Co., who becomes Routledge, Warne and Routledge in 1858, then George Routledge and Sons after the departure of Warne. Following a new financing in 1902, the company repurchases J.C. Nimmo Ltd in 1903.

In 1912, a fusion with Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co. create Routledge and Kegan Paul Ltd., a publisher major Londonienne. Taylor & Francis repurchase Routledge in 1998.

Encyclopedia

Taylor and Francis closes its division Routledge encyclopedia in 2006 due to low profitability. Some of its publications were:
  • Routledge Encyclopedia off Philosophy (1998) by Edward Craig, in 10 volumes, now available on Internet;

  • Routledge Encyclopedia off International Political Economy ;
  • Encyclopedia off Paleontology (1987) by Ronald Singer.
