Route travelling

The travelling Route is the translation of the German term Rollende Landstraße (or RoLa ) which indicates a particular type of railway shuttle transporting of the trucks.

It is a system of Ferroutage very much used since the years 1960 in all the Europe but always refused by the SNCF.

It is composed of flattened flat wagons connected to each other by passages making it possible a truck to roll of an end to the other of the oar. To ensure a loading respecting in height the railway gauge, the coaches have compact bogies with " small roues" : they comprise 4 axles with wheels 36 cm in diameter.

The exploitation is facilitated by the fact that the trucks take care in file without unhooking and a simple slope at an end of the oar is enough for the loading. The drivers are gathered in a car incorporated in the oar.

The last Franco-French rival system is the Modalohr.
