Route main road 88

The trunk road 88 , or RN 88 , is a French trunk road connecting Lyon to Toulouse.

From Lyon at the Puy-en-Velay

From Lyon to Saint-Etienne

The road is downgraded and it is replaced by the A47.

The road is in 2x2 ways until Yssingeaux except above Lignon (viaduct of Lignon). It will be put in 2x2 ways until Fangeas (southern term of the deviation of Puy).

Starting from Albi the road is duplicated by the A68 and it is in common with old the Trunk road 122 starting from Gaillac. It is displaced in RD 988 between Albi and the departmental limit of the Tarn and the Haute-Garonne.

The downgradings of 1972 subjected the RN 88 two modifications:
  • between Costaros and Châteauneuf-with-Randon, the RN 88 passed by Landos, Saint-Bonnet-with-Montauroux, Auroux and Pierrefiche; this section was displaced in RD 88 in Haute-Loire and RD 988 in the Lozere. The current RN 88 between Costaros and Châteauneuf-with-Randon took again old sections of trunk roads (of which RN 102).
  • the RN 88 had a section between RN 9 close to Banassac and Rodez; this section passed by Saint-Obstruct-with Olt and Bozouls, it was displaced in RD 988 . Between Sévérac-the-Castle and Rodez, the current RN 88 took again a section of the ex- RN 595.
