In the past

Formerly (before the downgradings of 1972), the trunk road 70 was detached from the Trunk road 6 to about thirty kilometers in the east of Avallon, then crossed Précy-under-Thil to go until Vitteaux. There, it merged with the Trunk road 5 of the time (today displaced in D905) until Dijon, where it separated some to serve Gray, before joining the Trunk road 19 with Combeaufontaine, with a score of kilometers in the west of Vesoul. Today, this road is downgraded and carries the D70 number.

It is interesting to note that this road of which the half of the course is in Haute-Saône carried the same number as the department: 70.
