Route main road 117

The trunk road 117 , or RN 117 , is a trunk road French connecting Toulouse to Bayonne.

Before the reform of 1972, RN 117 went from Perpignan to Bayonne. The section Perpignan - Saint-Martory was displaced in RD 117 ; only the section Saint-Martory - Bayonne having remained national.

The new layout of RN 117 belonged formerly to RN 125 for the section Toulouse - Saint-Martory.

The decree of the December 5th 2005 envisages the transfer of current RN 117 to the departments.

the road is confused with the A64 , except the section between the Portet-on-Garonne and Muret. The section between Toulouse and the Portet-on-Garonne was in joint base with the NR 20. These sections are dedicated to the downgrading.

The section of Martens-Tolosane to the Portet-on-Garonne, was arranged in 2×2 ways in the Années 1970, with skirting of Muret and Noah. Between the Portet-on-Garonne and Toulouse, a new fast track was created. At the time of the transformation of the 2×2 ways into highway in the Years 1990, the section of Muret to the Portet-on-Garonne (that is to say 8 km) was not transformed but was not doubled by the new highway section (with toll).

In the years 1970, the section of Martens-Tolosane to Lestelle was doubled by a road with 3 ways which avoided the crossing of several agglomerations and the passage along a dangerous cliff at the western entry of Saint-Martory. This road was numbered RN 127, it is incorporated today in the has 64.

In 1982 was open another section to 2×2 ways between Lanespède and Capvern, intended to be included in future the has 64. It made it possible to double the difficult slope of Capvern, source frequent of stoppers because of the many weight-heavy ones which pained to climb it. Moreover, the presence of a railway bridge low close to Capvern prevented the large convoys from borrowing this route. The opening of this deviation made it possible to circumvent these obstacles and to facilitate the traffic.

This expressway is nowadays absorbed by the has 64.
