Rousseau (provincial district)

Rousseau is a provincial electoral constituency Quebec. It sends a deputy to the National Assembly of Quebec. She is mainly in the area of Lanaudière but a small portion (the municipality of Holy-Sophie) is in the area of the Laurentides. She gathers the following municipalities: the Assumption, the Epiphany, Rawdon, Holy-Julienne, Saint-Roch-with-the Achigan, Saint-Alexis (parish and village), Holy-Sophie, Saint-Calixte, Holy Spirit and Saint-Flax-Laurentides.

She is represented by the ex-minister pequist François Legault since the general elections of November 30th, 1998.

History

The district of Rousseau was created in 1980, detached from the districts of Joliette-Montcalm, the Assumption and Prévost. It draws its name from Jacques Rousseau (1905-1970), ethnobotanist and explorer.
