Caption of king Arthur
The Roundtable in the legend of the
King Arthur is the dowry of marriage which Guenièvre with her husband-to-be king Arthur made to . It was conceived by Merlin. This table of monumental size for the time made it possible to accommodate about thirty people (of which knights of the roundtable: Perceval, Lancelot, Kay, Tristant, Arthur…). But according to the accounts, with this table can sit down between 45 and 150 knights. Very quickly Arthur gave him a dominating place with Camelot and made of it a symbol of peace and of equality, indeed while sitting at this table, each knight became equal to the different one: king and titles did not exist any more. A place remains always free, it is called “perilous Siège” and is reserved for that which will become the best knight by finding the Graal.
The symbol of counted is found nowadays and certain communes still practice this rite. A reproduction of the roundtable of Arthur is suspended in the Large Hall of Winchester, England.
