The round central closed vowel is a vowel used in certain languages. Its symbol in the International Phonetic Alphabet is, and its equivalent in symbol X-SAMPA is } .

The symbol the API one represents a U barred (the symbol not barred representing a posterior high Voyelle round).

Characteristics

  • Its Degré of aperture is closed, which means that the language is positioned as near as possible palate.
  • Its Joint is central, which means that the language is placed in the middle of the mouth, halfway between a back Vowel and a former Voyelle.
  • Its Caractère of roundness is round, which means that the lips are round.
