Roumoules

Roumoules ( Roumoulo in Occitan Of Provence according to the Standard mistralienne and Romolas according to the traditional Standard) is a common French, located in the department of the Alp-of-High-Provence and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Its inhabitants is called Roumoulins.

Geography

The village is located in the valley that Colostre, flow of the the Verdon, dug in the Plateau of Valensole. It is to 15 km in the west of Moustiers-Holy-Marie and to 3 km in the east of Riez on the secondary road 952. Seven kilometers more in north is Puimoisson, and about at same distance, in the south, the lake and the village of the Holy-Cross-of-Verdon. The commune extends on 2.604 ha, average altitude is of approximately 600 meters.

History

Roumoules appears in 1020 pennies the term in villa Romules , in 1080 pennies that of in territorio Romulas and in 1096 it is mentioned Castri… romulas . Perhaps she was employed again in the construction of the furnace bridge. It is about an epitaph dated from Ier front century J.C., of Marcus Annius Severus to his wife Julia Tessallys.

Roumoules will become a Co Seigneurie which will belong to many families of lords including, in 1649, the Grimaldi Régusse then, at the 18th century, the family of Clérissy which will be at the origin of the reputation of the earthenware of Moustiers-Holy-Marie.

Castle of Countryside : Located the valley of Colostre enters Riez and Roumoules, the ground of Countryside east, according to the inventory of production of November 28th, 1618, one of the oldest seigneuriaux fields of Provence. It is known that in 1324 it belonged to the family of Podio, coseigneurs of Laugh and Roumoules. The current castle was built during the first third of the 17th century by Honore Gassendy. It had many owners of which the Grimaldi family which will set up the seigniory of Roumoules in Baronnie. It will be finally bought in 1782 per Pierre Joseph Clérissy, celebrates faience Moustiers-Holy-Marie.
