Rough band

The rough bands belong to the carriageway Markings road. They are intended to draw the attention of the drivers by a sound effect and vibration.

Transversals

These rough bands are located transversely on the Route S, with the approach of intersections, Carrefour S or danger zones where it is necessary to slow down; the zones of approach of certain barriers of Péage on Autoroutes are also equipped with rough bands.

In France, they are generally laid out in series of eleven, divided into four group of, respectively in the direction of circulation: 1,2,3 then 5.

The thickness of some Millimètre S of these bands causes a light jolt; the rough nature of the fine gravels - fixed using a bituminous or synthetic binder a noise of bearing causes; and the whole causes a surprise of the driver, accentuated by the repetition and the multiplication of these stimuli. These devices are judicious to put the driver in alarm, and to inform it imminence of a danger. These bands sometimes simply consist of sufficiently thick painting to induce the desired effect.

Longitudinal

One also finds bands rough in longitudinal form, on the highways or of the primary distributers. They are integrated into painting, or in the form of small bars, or slightly dug in the thickness of the coated with the roadway. They delimit the roadway, and even sometimes each lane. The goal is to draw the attention of the drivers moving away from the portion of roadway which is reserved for them, by carelessness or somnolence.
