The rouble (рубли in the plural, in Russian) has been a monetary unit used for more than 500 years in the Russian Empire, in the USSR and in some other countries. The rouble appeared at the 13th century with Novgorod, then Principauté controlled by the Boyard S (council of noble), where the most important decisions were made by Vetché (gathering of the people on the central place of the city). It acted at that time, not of coins but of small pieces of money, the ingots (" grivna") from 200 or 500 G being divided into smaller units in order to facilitate the exchanges. The word " rouble" from the Russian verb " comes; roubit'" (рубить) which means " hacher" , because it is undoubtedly with the axe that the ingots were parcelled out.
The rouble is divided into 100 kopeks (копеек).
