Rotrou III , killed with Rouen in 1144, was count of the Pole of 1100 with 1144. It was wire of Geoffroy II of Mortagne, count de Mortagne, then Pole, and of Beatrice de Montdidier.

Biography

It starts by accompanying his uncle Ebles II, count de Roucy, in Spain to fight the Moors at the sides of another uncle Sanche {{1st}}, king d' Aragon and of Navarre. Then it engaged in the First crusade, under the orders of Robert Courteheuse. It was illustrated with the Siège of Antioche, then with the Prise of Jerusalem. His/her father died whereas it was still in Holy Land.

Been able after its return, a conflict bursts between the king Henri Ier of England and the duke Robert Courteheuse. Rotrou supports Robert Courteheuse, while its enemy Robert II of Bellême supports Henri. Overcome by Robert, Rotrou joins with Henri and wife one of her natural daughters. But the fight against the lord of Bellême continues, devastating the grounds, so that both belligérents was excommunicated. Rotrou made amend quickly.

In 1111, it fights under the banner of Henri Beauclerc against the king of France, for which fight the count of Anjou and the lord de Bellême. Captive fact, Rotrou will remain prisoner of Bellême during some time, during which Mortagne-with-Pole will be burnt.

In 1112, it sets out again in Spain and combat on behalf of the king Alphonse Ier d' Aragon, but it must return quickly to defend the Pole, invaded by Guillaume III Gouët. Of return in Spain of 1115 to 1118, it helps Alphonse to reconquer the kingdom of Navarre which had revolted.

In 1135, the king Henri I {{er}} Beauclerc dies, and its succession is asserted at the same time by its nephew Etienne of Blois and its daughter Mathilde, married to Geoffroy Plantagenêt, count d' Anjou. A war followed. Initially in favor of Etienne, Rotrou organizes in 1141 a meeting of the Norman lords who join massively in Mathilde and Geoffroy. This last begins the conquest of Normandy, and puts the seat in front of Rouen. It is there that Rotrou was killed out of an arrow, in January 1144.

Mathilde perishes the November 25th 1120 in the shipwreck of the White-Nave. It remaria before 1126 with Harvise d' Évreux, girl of Gautier d' Évreux, baron de Salisbury and of Sybille de Chanoit. They had:
