Rothbach

Rothbach is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.

The common one belongs to the Regional natural park of the Vosges of North.

Geography

The village is located at the foot of the the Vosges of North, in the valley of the Rothbach. It is close to Offwiller, Bischholtz, Ingwiller and Lichtenberg.

In addition to the secondary road 28 which connects Niederbronn-the-Baths (to 11 km) to Ingwiller (to 6 km), the commune is also served by the RD 326 which leads to Pfaffenhoffen (to 10 km) and that going up Rothbach until Lichtenberg (to 6 km) and Reipertswiller (to 8 km).

History

The village is mentioned in 826 during the transfer of the Relique S of Saint Adelphe. It is undoubtedly about an old imperial possession. The village underwent extensive damage during the various wars which devastated the Alsace.

An important Jewish colony is present at the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

Friedrich Lienhard , born in Rothbach on October 4th, 1865.

Writer of German expression, leader of the literary movement " Heimatkunst " hostile with modernity. Exiled voluntarily in Thuringe, there did not remain indifferent to the literary life of its Alsatian soil.
