Rothari , duke lombard of Brescia elected king of Lombards of Italy by the party arien, thus succeeding its predecessor arien Arioald (636 of which he marries the catholic widow Gondeberge). Its reign is marked by new conquests lombardes; the Corsica is invaded, the Toscane and the conquered and occupied Ligurie, and Genoa falls in 643. In the North-East, it seizes finally the fortress of Oderzo which had always escaped Lombards and twice beats the Byzantines on the mounts the Apennines and on the septentrional slope of the Monte Cimone. He dies in 652 and is buried with Pavia, capital lombarde.
Rothari is the first king lombard to put in writing the oral laws of its people and his subjects Barbares. Thus, the November 22nd 643, it makes publish in Pavia its famous edict, more known under the name of Édit of Rothari, of Germanic inspiration .
