Rostrenen
Rostrenen (Rostren into Breton) is a common department of the Coast-with Armor, in the area Brittany, in France.
Rostrenen means into Breton, " the hill of the ronces". The legend tells that a statue out of wooden of the Vierge was found in a bramble bush. This statue is exposed in the church of Rostrenen. It is shown in the open air, at the time of the procession of the August 15th. The pilgrims, lighting with a candle, give each other appointment around 8 p.m., in front of the church and go up while singing on the hill of Miniou (meadows of the weather observatory) around a large wood fire. This Pèlerinage one of is attended in Brittany. The local Breton pronunciation is /rosse-train/ (French and noninternational phonetics): the final probably fell during the Middle Ages under the influence from the fort tonic Accent Breton but like often for the Breton place names, the French administration preserved an antiquated C-W communication dating from the Middle Ages (cf celebrates it marked Henaff /Hena ñ/but whose registry office preserves the use of the graphème aff used by the Breton ones at the Middle Ages to note the nasalisation of a vowel).
In the same way, the name used by the administration is marked /rosse-treu-nain/ (always in “French” phonetics), the sound system of the Breton not being the same one as that of the French.
