Ross Chambers , born in 1932, of Australian origin, is professor with Ann Arbor, Michigan, one of the most famous universities of North America. In 1985, this university grants to him the prestigious title of Distinguished University Professor off French and Comparative Literature. It is also fellow' of the Australian Academy off Letters, and, in France, Officer about the Academic Palms. was professor of French literature in Australia, then at the University of Michigan. Author of several literary tests in English and French, inter alia on Nerval and the beginnings of the modernism in France.

Since the Eighties, Mr. Chambers turned to the theory, by publishing works on the narration ( Story and Situation ), the melancholy ( Melancholy and opposition ), literary significance ( Meaning and Meanineliiess ) and, more recently, the Loiterature , work which speaks in praise of the digression and the wandering in the literature.

Ross Chambers was elected as foreign correspondent of the Oulipo for Australia in 1961. The distance explains why it does not take part any more in the activities of Oulipo.
