Rosny-sous-Bois

Rosny-sous-Bois is a town of France, in the suburbs Is of Paris.

History

The place is known under varied name according to the time: , Redomatum, Rodoniacum in 1163; Rooneio, Roonio, Rodonio at the 13th century; Rosny in 1344; Rooniaco at the 15th century; Rôni in 1740.

The existence of a village mérovingien is attested by excavations carried out beside the Holy-Genevieve church.

According to a manuscript of 1291, the Miracula sanctae Genovefae postmortem report that in 866, the monks who bring back the relics of Sainte Genevieve of Marizy (Aisne), where the mounting of holy had been sheltered into 861 to withdraw it from the Normands, stop in Rosny-sous-Bois.

The careers of Gypse are exploited as of at least 1640 in the sector of the street Rochebrune. This exploitation will cease in second half of the 20th century.

In order to satisfy the needs for residences of the commune, in full expansion, a public office of dwellings at a cheap rate is created by decree, at the request of the city, on May 9th, 1926. Its first realization will be a whole of 6 buildings of 6 stages, the current residence of the General-Leclerc, inaugurated in 1933.

In July 1964, a few tens of gipsies families are installed on the buttresses of Redoute of Boissière. Small-with-small, it will be sédentariseront there and the camping will become more important and less precarious, generating relations more or less tended with the vicinity.

Geography

The city is located at the east of Paris, to approximately 5 km of the Porte of Bagnolet. It extends on a bottom from a valley and the blanks from two plates of which that of Avron.

On one of the sides of the slope, a small river, the Ru of Moleret , takes its source with Rosny, then becomes the Molette before being thrown in the Rouillon with Dugny. Because of the urbanization of the sector, this river was busée and does not appear any more on the level of the ground.

The territory is also drained, towards the Marne, by old the Ru of the Fountain of the Vessel .

The aqueduct of the Dhuis also crosses the communal territory

Economy

Historically the city developed by its cultures maraîchaires and the exploitation of the Gypse.

At the end of the 19th century, 487 hectares are still cultivated, on the 629 which account the commune:

There remains an entry of the gypsum quarries in the park Jean Decesari. The exploitation of the careers ended with beginning of the year 90.

Today , the common one counts: 10725 uses of the private sector, mainly concentrated in the trade (: 4235 employment), services (: 3152 employment) and industry (: 1559 employment). The principal employers are:

Shopping malls

The city has since the Sixties ten the greatest shopping mall of the department, shopping mall Rosny 2.

Rosny 2 is the first Shopping mall is Parisian in the face and Turnover. It includes/understands in particular a Hypermarché Carrefour, a department store Galeries Lafayette and 190 commerces.
It was inaugurated in 1973 and was renovated in 1997
The access is carried out by the RER at the station Rosny-Wood-Perrier, by many lines of bus (7) (including 143, 116 and 301) like in north by, the west by and the south via.

It shelters since 1997 a Multiplexe of 15 rooms, the UGC Movies-City Rosny, 4th larger French cinema in term of multitude, with 2.308.000 entries in 2004.

Since 2006 the new shopping mall Domus was opened in Rosny. It one of largest of Europe is dedicated to the equipment of the house.

Transport

Yesterday

The Paris-Mulhouse line was open as of 1852, and a first station served Rosny in 1856. In the last years of the 19th century, Rosny was served by a small score of trains in each direction, putting the commune at 25 minutes of Paris.

Rosny was also served by three tram lines of the Company of the Railroads nogentais:

• the line 4 : Town hall of Rosny-sous-Bois - Maltournée (Neuilly-Pleasure) (which was renumbered 116 in 1921 by the new owner, STCRP)
• the line 6 , opened on June 21st, 1900, who connected the Place of the Republic to Paris with Villemomble (Gare of Raincy - Villemomble - Montfermeil) (which carried as from 1921 N°118)
• the line 9 , opened on March 13rd, 1902, between Porte of Vincennes and Villemomble (Gare of Gagny) (renumbered 121 in 1921)

These lines were transformed into lines of bus between 1935 and 1937.

Today

• the city has two stations of the RER: Rosny-sous-Bois and Rosny Wood-Perrier.
• the city is crossed by the A86 and the A3 is in the vicinity.

Tomorrow: prolongation of line 11

Prolongation of the Line 11 of the subway of Paris to the Station of Rosny - Wood-Perrier seems finally acquired, since the Contrat of projects State-area 2007-2013 adoptee by the District council on February 16th, envisages an envelope of 10 million euros (3 with the load of the State, 10 with the load of the Région Ile-de-France) for the studies and the first work of this line which would pass by Montreuil and Romainville

Demography

The inhabitants of Rosny-sous-Bois are called Rosnéens. INSEE indicates that, according to the census of 2005, the number of residences increased by 6,6% since 1999, passing from: 16531 with: 17618, with a significant growth of the number of residences occupied by their owners (43% to 47%). In 1999: 4124 hearths were placed in a building HLM.

The current mayor is Claude Pernès.

The commune adheres to the Association territorial collectivities of the Parisian East, whose Claude Pernes is president in 2007.

Municipal council

The Municipal council is composed of thirty-six city council men (of which ten are associated with the mayor), proportionally with the number of inhabitants. The municipal council elected in March 2001 is made up as follows: four advisers belong to the socialist party, three with the Communist party, one with the greens, and twenty-six belong to UDF.

Tourist monuments and places

• the fort of Rosny which sheltered between 1901 and 1920 the 4th regiment of Zouaves was built between 1840 and 1850 on the instructions of Thiers, in order to ensure the defense of Paris. It shelters from now on the National police.
• the Regional Museum of the Railroad of Rosny-sous-Bois (Rosny-Rail).
• the communal museum Louis-Emile-Auxerre (History of Rosny) , 7 rue Saint-Claude, sheltered in a beautiful middle-class house into grinding of the beginning of the 20th century
• the church Holy-Genevieve built by Claude Incipient in 1857 - 1860, built on the ruins of a church of the 13th century demolished in 1857, with stained glasses in the chorus and the side chapels drawn by Lusson in 1859 and one decorative frame. A mounting containing of the relics of holy Genevieve is honoured there.
• the church the St. Lawrence built in 1930 by Albert Chauvel, with a pediment of grinding stones and bricks.

This work, consisted of naked female having a stock with its left hand, recalls the wine past of the Commune, replaced, as of the 19th century, by arboriculture. In March 2000, 1100 feet of Sauvignon and Chardonnay were replanted in the Parc Decésari with the site even of the vines of formerly. In 2005, 330 liters of wine were bottled.
