The February 26th 1658, was signed in Roskilde the Traité of Roskilde, more known under its Scandinavian name of Paix of Roskilde , by which the king of Denmark - Norway Frederic III was constrained to yield several of its provinces to king de Suède Charles X Gustave.
The Cathédrale of Roskilde is one of major attractions of the town of Roskilde. The fact that this Cathédrale was the only one of Sjælland until the 20th century, and that the majority of the kings and queens of Denmark were buried there testifies to the old importance of the city.
