Rosemontoise

The Rosemontoise is a small river of the Territoire of Belfort which takes its source on the territory of the village of Riervescemont and finishes its race with Valdoie where it is thrown in the Savoureuse.

Rosemontoise owes its name with the castle of Rosemont, a ruin perched on a glacial bolt with the outlet of the valley of Riervescemont.

The drops

Rosemontoise is born from association many torrents which drain the bottom of the valley of Riervescemont, brooks which bear the name of drops in the Under-Vosgean Country (see Rougegoutte, for example).

Here the principal ones:

  • Drop of Consenterie (Forest of Consenterie)
  • Drop Milandre (Forest of Milandre)
  • Drop of Small Milandre
  • Drop of the Furnace
  • Drop of the Channel
  • Drop of Chantoiseau (Collar of Chantoiseau)
  • Drop Jean Reiniche
  • Drop Clérisse
  • Drop of Louvière
All these torrents occur with more than 900 meters of altitude but are very often dry for the periods when it does not rain.

The mode of Rosemontoise is the same one as that of Tasty the, the Madeleine and the Saint Nicolas's Day, all four fascinating birth on the very sprinkled slopes of the solid mass of the Ballon of Alsace. Its flow can be multiplied by ten in a few hours, for little that an increase of the temperatures accompanied by violent rains dissolves the snow which had accumulated on the mountain. In summer, it happens that the course of the river is summarized with a vague filament of water circulating among the rocks papering its bed.

The risings of Rosemontoise encouraged the department of the Territoire of Belfort to build stoppings of regulation to attenuate the risings. The rupture of one of the stoppings at the time of the setting in water on December 30th, 2001 caused a flood which made defer the startup.
