Rosalie of Palermo
Rosalie of Palermo (in Italian Santa Rosalia) - (1130 - 1160) is the owner of the town of Palermo in Italy and of the town of El Hatillo with the Venezuela.
Its life
According to the legend, Rosalie was born in 1130, of a noble family which went down from Charlemagne. It was a very pious young girl, who withdrew herself, at the 14 years age, in a cave of the Pellegrino mount where it spent the last years of her life, drinking the water of a source and nourishing themselves of what nature offered to him around. She died in 1166.In 1624, the plague was declared with Palermo, and Holy Rosalie appeared initially with a sick woman, then with a hunter to which it indicated where its relics were. She ordered to him to transport her remainders to Palermo and to organize a great procession while transporting them in the streets of the city.
The hunter climbs the mountain, and found the remainders of holy where she had said it to him. It did what she had recommended to him, and as of the end of the procession, the plague ceased. After this miracle, Sainte Rosalie was venerated like the holy owner of Palermo and a sanctuary was set up at the place where its remainders had been found.
Since, a great festival called Festino always takes place on July 15th, during which a statue of Rosalie is carried to the length of the streets, but as on September 4th, day of its festival, the tradition wants as the faithful ones assemble barefeet from the city to the Pellegrino mount.
