Rosalío Jose Castillo Lara

The Cardinal Rosalío Jose Castillo Lara , (born on September 4th, 1922 with San Casimiro, Venezuela and dead on October 16th, 2007 with Caracas, Venezuela), is a cardinal Venezuelan of the Roman Catholic church.

Biography

Born in Saint Casimir, in the diocese of Maracay, in the state of Aragua in Venezuela, third of seven children, it is ordered priest on September 4th 1949, by his/her uncle, Mgr Castillo Hernandez, archbishop of Caracas. In 1950 it is sent in Italy to study the canonical right near the University salésienne of Turin, it obtains the title of Doctor in canonical Droit. In September 1954, it is named professor of the canonical Faculty of Law , initially in Turin until in 1957, then with Rome until in 1965.

Named bishop titualire of Præcausa on March 26th, 1973, to be a coadjutor of the bishop of Trujillo, it is then promoted archbishop on May 26th, 1982, and returns in the Roman Curie; it is created cardinal by Jean Paul II with the Consistoire of May 25th, 1985, of the title of Nostra Signora di Coromoto in S. Giovanni di Dio.

Highly skilled president of the organization of Administration of the inheritance of the Holy See, on October 31st, 1990, it was appointed president of the pontifical Commission for the State of the Vatican City. The cardinal Castillo Lara was also one of the Members of the Commission of monitoring of the Banque of the Vatican (Institut for Works of religion, known like IOR ).

The cardinal Castillo Lara was one of the ecclesiastical figures which was opposed more to the government of Hugo Chávez. In 2006, it had invited during a homélie to request with enthusiasm for Venezuela, in a situation which it qualified like " one of most serious of our history ". He showed president Chávez to become increasingly authoritative, which would have treated d'" hypocrite, gangster and demon in soutane."

He died the October 16th 2007 with Caracas. He had been hospitalized in intensive care in a hospital of the capital, fine September, suffering of respiratory and renal insufficiency.
