Description

It is a Arbuste climbing on the other plants until a height from 3 to 5 meters, with the robust stems provided with bent pivots (sometimes absent).

The Sheet S, from 5 to 10 cm length, imparipennées, are made up from 5 to 9 leaflets and carry at the base of the petiole of stipulate feathery.

The Fleur S, small (from 1,5 to 4 cm in diameter), white or pink, are gathered into large pyramidal Corymbe S. The styles are welded in a single column, characteristic of the section of the Synstylae . Flowering takes place at the beginning of the summer, i.e. at the end of June and July in the northern hemisphere.

The fruits, red with crimson with maturity, have 6 to 8 mms in diameter.

Distribution and habitat

The surface of origin of this species is located in the Far East:

It is in Japan, where it is known under the name of No-Ibara , the wild rose tree most common.

It was largely naturalized in all the continents: British Isles, South Africa, the United States and Canada, New Zealand, sometimes behaving like a invading Plant.

One meets it in the forests and on banks of river between 300 and 2000 meters of altitude. it is a very prolific plant which puts up with very varied conditions of ground and moisture.

Culture and use

Rosa will multiflora is cultivated like decorative Plante and is regarded as the type of the class of the “climbing rose trees multiflores”. Many varieties or hybrids were created at the end of the XIXe century and first half of the XXe century, in particular by the German rosierists such as J.C. Schmidt and R. Geschwind.

It is also used as Porte-greffe because it supports the acid grounds, for the reproduction by grafting of cultivars of improved rose trees. One uses in particular for this purpose the varieties Rosa will multiflora “Japonica” and Rosa multiflora' Inermis'.

It multiplies easily by Bouture S.

In the east of the North America, the rose tree multiflore became a invading Plante, whereas it had been introduced at the origin like measures for the conservation of the grounds and to support the wildlife. It is easy to distinguish from the American indigenous rose trees thanks to its large inflorescences, which bear many flowers or fruits, often more than one dozen, while the American species carry from there only one or some by branch.

With time, this plant became an ecological problem engraves because of its capacity to push under varied conditions of light, ground and moisture, and because its seeds are widely diffused by the birds. Once installed, it forms almost impenetrable thickets which replace the indigenous plants and create a fire hazard in the wild areas. In certain places of the the United States, one classified the rose tree multiflore like “bad harmful grass”. In the areas of pasture, this rose tree is generally regarded as a true plague, although it can be grazed by the Chèvre S.

  • Rosa will multiflora “Flora pleno” and “Carnea” which differ by their double flowers white or pink,
  • Rosa will multiflora “Cathayensis”, with large white flowers at the rosy edge,
  • Rosa will multiflora watsoniana , found in 1850 in a garden Japan board,
  • Rosa will multiflora wilsonii , with white simple flowers, very anthology,
  • Rosa will multiflora “Chick”, change or hybrid, dwarf rose with simple, white flowers or pinks of May at October,
