Rosa rubiginosa
The rubiginous rose tree ( Rosa rubiginosa ) is a species of Rosier pertaining to the section of the '' Caninæ '', originating in Europe and Western Asia, since the France and the British Isles until the southernmost Scandinavia, the Turkey and the west of the Russia.
Synonymous: Rosa eglanteria .
Description
It is a Arbrisseau forming a dense bush, with null and void sheets, from two to three meters in height and broad, whose stems are provided with many pivots in hook. The foliage exhales a strong apple odor.
The Sheet S imparipennées, from 5 to 9 cm length, count from 5 to 9 oval or round leaflets at the tightened edge, and are covered many glandular hairs.
The Flowers, from 1,8 to 3 cm in diameter, have five pink, white petals at the base, and of many yellow cheesecloths; they are grouped in Corymbe S from 2 to 7 flowers and appear end of spring in the middle of the summer.
The Fruit S are Cynorrhodon S globulous with oblong 1,2 cm in diameter, reds with maturity.
Culture and use
In addition to its pink flowers, this species is appreciated for its perfume and its fruits which are formed after the flowers and persist well during all of winter. Graham Thomas recommends to plant it in the southern parts and west of the Jardin so that the odors are transported in the garden by the hot and wet winds.It is a species which tolerates grounds of high alkalinity and which requires neither a fertile ground, nor a good drainage. It is tolerant with the dryness and resists the diseases well.
In New Zealand, this rose tree is regarded as a invading Plante, classified for this reason like Regional Seedling Pest . It is the same in south-east of the Australia.
The fruits of this rose tree are edible and prepare out of preserves or Confiture S. One also makes infusions of them. They are slightly astringent and acid and contain carotenoids, flavonoïdes and an odorous essential oil.
Studies of the Université of Concepción to the Chile indicate that this oil contains elevated levels of polyinsaturés essential fatty-acids (linoleic and linoleic), which are partly responsible for the beneficial action of the Huile of musky pink, employed in the Cosmétique S, in the regeneration of the skin. The fleshy envelope of its seeds contains an high rate of Vitamine C.

The Hybride S of Rosa rubiginosa obtained by Lord Penzance are more than 15, with rose trees Bourbons, hybrids going up or Rosa fœtida :- Rosa X penzanceana or “Lady Penzance”, Rosa rubiginosa X Rosa fœtida , with simple flowers, salmon,
- “Benda”, “Catherine Seyton”, “Mined”, “Lord Penzance”, with pink flowers,
- “Lucy Ashton”, with white flowers and its change “Magnifica”, with semi-double pink flowers, which is perhaps the disappeared reappearance of “Duplex” Rosa rubiginosa .
