Roquefort-the-Bédoule is a common French, located in the department of the Rhone delta and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. Its inhabitants is called Bédoulens.

Geography

The village of Roquefort-the-Bédoule is nested in north of Blackcurrant, Ceyreste and Cadière d' Azur, with the south of Aubagne, Géménos and Cuges-the-Pines, with the east of Carnoux-in-Provence and the west of Castellet.

Roquefort Bédoule profits from a marked relief, whose altitude varies from 185 m to 563 m, of the plain at the top. Its culminating point offers an imposing sight on the gulf of Marseilles, the creeks and bays of Blackcurrant and Ciotat, to the Cape Sicié. The commune extends on 3225 hectares of which more half of hill.

The surface of the commune of Roquefort-the-Bédoule represents 31,1 km ², that is to say a density of 152,2 inhabitants per km ².

The geographical coordinates are of 43° 15 ' of Northern latitude and 5° 37 ' of Western longitude

History

Dependence of the Abbey of Saint-Victor of Marseilles during centuries, the village of Roquefort is created at the 7th century, the village develops on the peaks dominating bays of Ciotat and Cassis. A complete whole with a fortress, a vault of the 12th century and the village under the fortifications still testify to this establishment.

Gone down in the plain and developing an agricultural activity the borough from Roquefort lives in the prerogative of the marquis de Villeneuve of his agricultural activity and wine.

In the Thirties, the working borough takes the step on the old agricultural village of Roquefort and form the commune of Roquefort-the-Bédoule.

  • Castle and village of Roquefort (9th-12th century)
