Roquebillière is a common French, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Its inhabitants is called the Roquebilliérois .

Geography

Roquebillière is a commune of the valley of the Vésubie in the department of the Alpes-Maritimes. Located at the bottom of the valley, it is framed in north by the summit of Cayras (1  813  m) and in the west, by the reliefs of the head of Siruol (2  053  m) and of the point of Siruol (2  018  m).

History

The name of Roquebillière comes from Roccabellera , or rock with the Abeille S. the village knows during its history an alternation of booms and misfortunes due to the wars and the natural disasters, like the earthquakes of 566, of 614, the landslides of 1564 and 1926, of believed of the Vésubie which, as in 1094, 1743 and 1789, carry part of the houses. The June 23rd 1494, a “horrible earthquake” upsets the valleys of Roquebillière and Lantosque.

The September 28th 1388, following the war of succession of the queen Jeanne, Roquebillière, like the other communes of left bank of the VAr, is placed under the sovereignty of the Maison of Savoy, it is the Dédition of Nice in Savoy and the constitution of the Comté of Nice.

The French troops occupy the village of 1691 with 1696, then of 1706 with 1708. The plague arrives there in 1764. The commune, pro-Frenchwoman, become chief town of canton during the revolutionary period when France seizes the Comté of Nice in 1796. It will become definitively French yes in 1860 by a vote for the fastening of 503 and 24 abstentions.

After the crumbling of the November 24th 1926 which seriously damaged the village, one rebuilds it on Right Bank. The old village remains always inhabited.

In spite of the Rural migration, the population of Roquebillière remained relatively stable.

Administration
