Roots of the chance

the Roots of the chance , (original English title, The Roots off Coincidence ) is a test of Arthur Koestler published in 1972, which constitutes an introduction in a language accessible to certain theories from the Parapsychologie. One finds there in particular references to the Extrasensory perceptions like the Télépathie and to the Psychokinèse.

The author postulates there the existence of bonds between elements of the quantum Mécanique, such as for example the behavior of the Neutrino S and their interaction with the paranormaux Temps, and these penomenes. The book was subject to the influence of concept of Synchronicité of Carl Jung.

Allusions to this work in the popular culture

  • In volume 7 of the drawn series V for Vendetta , one can see the Finch inspector reading the Roots of the chance . Koestler is quoted there on several occasions.
  • the singer Sting was a large reader of Koestler. The name of the last album of Police force recorded in studio, Synchronicity , refers to the Roots of the chance. Sting had entitled the preceding album of the group Ghost in the Machine which is the title of another book of French Koestler (: the horse in the engine ).

  • "The Roots off Coincidence" is the name of a song of the group of Pat Metheny, appearing in their album Imaginary Day (1997).
