The commune is crossed by the Gave of Pau and its affluent, the brook of Caséloupoup.
A tributary of the Saleys, the arriou of Mondran, also sprinkles the territory of the commune.

Toponymy

The toponym Rooms-Mongiscard appears in the forms Burgus apud castellum Montem Guiscardum (1106, cartulaire of Dax), Monguiscart (1385, censier of Béarn), Salted-Monguiscart (1476, notaries of Castetner) and Dirty and Dirty-Monguiscart (1578, reformation of Béarn).

Rooms comes from the Germanic word of origin saal “castle”.

Mogiscard comes from Latin montem “mount” and the Germanic name of man Wisishart.

History

In 1385, Rooms-Mongiscard depended on the Bailliage of River-Gave, name of an archpriest of the diocese of Dax which drew its name from the Gave of Pau. 23 fires there were counted.
