Roolwer
Roolwer (or Hrafr in norrois) was a bishop of the island of Man. Its name is of Scandinavian origin.
According to the Chronic of Man, he was the first bishop of Man whose existence is attested, before even the creation of the abbey of Rushen. He officiated before the rise on the throne of Godred Crovan, i.e. before 1080. According to the Chronicles of Man, it “is sufficient to begin the enumeration from the bishops with Roolwer, because we are completely ignoramuses of the bishops who preceded it, because we do not have any former written source, nor of the account of some of our old. ”
Roolwer was buried in the parish of Maughold. The church of Maughold is dedicated to him besides.
