Ronnie Smith

Ronnie Smith , born the April 21st 1962 with Galveston (the United States), is a former player of naturalized American Basket-ball French which evolved/moved at the station of interior (2,06m).

Biography

Ronnie Smith built most of its career on its defensive capacities. Sufficient large for a pivot in the European context, its breadth enabled him to make rampart many attacks against.

On its arrival with Vichy, it has very little American university references (2,7 pts and 2,8 rbds at the time of its last year), but it manages to be essential in this team (19,9 pts and 9,8 rbds), which will however be relegated in Main road 3 for financial reasons.

He then knows his first experiment with the more high level (a) by joining the Chorale Roanne Basket, club distant of a few tens of kilometers. Its statistics, less important than in Pro B, already let think that he will be a complete player: 16,4 pts, 8,5 rbds, 1,3 int, 1,9 Pd.

Of return in Pro B the following year, he becomes an accustomed American of the French championship by belonging to the beautiful team of Voiron in 1990-91 (19,6 pts with 56,3%,9,9 rbds, 2,2 Pd, 2,1 int) then while playing finally in a high level team, with SLUC Nancy (16,8 pts with 57,4%,9,2 rbds, 1,3 ct, 2 Pd).

Finally the great adventure comes from Besancon. Ronnie, which set in motion the procedure of naturalization that its marriage with a Frenchwoman offers to him, takes an active part in the rise in ProB of the club of Doubs.

After an unhappy experiment of 5 matches to BCM Gravelines in Pro has (in spite of very complete statistics: 11,2 pts, 54,3%,9 rbds, 4 Pd, 1,8 ct, 1,8 int), it returns to Besancon which settles like a tenor of the Pro B (16,5 pts with 60,8%,10,1 rbds, 2,2 Pd, 2,4 int).

Then come the five more beautiful years from its career, in particular with ASVEL Villeurbanne, where it will make team with Delaney Rudd, Alain Digbeu or even Jim Bilba: 12,5 pts with 59,6%,8,4 rbds, 1,4 Pd, 1,3 int.

Without the serious wound of this last in 1997, Euroleague could have returned for the second time to a French club.

It is the time when R. Smith is called in Team of France where it will render invaluable services defensive.

Enthusiastic catholic, appreciated citizen, it will have achieved the unanimity in its career for its kindness and its avenance.

It finished its career with Élan Inhabitant of Béarn Pau-Orthez in 2000.
