Ronnie Brunswijk

Ronnie Brunswijk is a Politician Suriname (or Surinam), born in June 1962 with Moengo-Tapoe (Marowijne District).

At the time of the coup d'etat of February 25th, 1980 carried out by Dési Bouterse, it is Sergent in the regular army of the Suriname and one of its bodyguards. Not having received the advance which he hoped for because of his participation in the events, he enters in conflict with his hierarchy. He shows them racism towards the maroon negros (Boni Aluku, Djuka, Saramaca…) and deserted the army for the rebellion. He founds the Jungle Commando and this situation plunges the Suriname in the Civil war (1986-1992). It comes into contact with the Netherlands where part of the political community fled (the Suriname was a colony Dutchwoman until the independence of November 25th, 1975). The France, present in the Guyana French neighbor, is also implied. Indeed, this department of Outre-mer could be tried by this wind of Indépendance, which would be prejudicial, in particular because of presence with Kourou of the Guianese Space center (CSG) from where is launched ARIANE, floret of the Industrie Aérospatiale of the Europe. Following various combat and massacres (Moïwana, on November 29th, 1986), the French Guyana sees flowing several thousands of Réfugié S in the surroundings of Saint-Laurent-of-Maroni the. Those, called People Temporarily Moved of the Suriname (PPDS), are placed in four refugee camps, under the aegis of the the United Nations: Camp has beside the aerodrome of Saint-Laurent-of-Maroni the (for aviation, also called by the Vliegfeld refugees… Dutch aerodrome), Camp PK9 along the D9 road going towards Mana, Camp of Charvein at the beginning of the D10 road connecting D9 to Javouhey, then Camp of the Acarouany near Javouhey. This social situation, medical and political will have lasted six years, plunging Saint-Laurent-of-Maroni the and its surroundings in difficult situation, in particular for the Hospital André Bouron, which spent years to be raised on the financial plan.

By this internationalization of the situation, Ronnie Brunswijk called upon several Mercenaire S and Déserteur S in his rows. The Jungle Commando undergo large reverse (counter-offensive of 1986), and begin the first negotiations then. If this situation contributes to a timid return of the Démocratie to the Suriname (1988), the economy of the country is weakened for many years.

The situation enlisant itself durably, the Jungle Commando gradually evolved to what one would be tried of called of the banditism, between the attack of the bank of Moengo and various traffics on the river Maroni (gasoline, but, weapons then drug), vis-a-vis a sometimes impotent French Army, even forced with a certain kindness. Ronnie Brunswijk was condemned by Contumace by a Tribunal of Haarlem to six years of imprisonment for traffic of Stupéfiants. A mandate to bring international was launched against him. Today it is a respected business man and fears. The years passing, it started a political career at the time of the presidential election of May 1996 with its political party ABOP (General Release and Development Party). Since the elections of 2005, it sits at the National Assembly like deputy.
