Rondo
Poetry
In Poetry, a rondo is a Poème of three stanzas (3/5/5 or 4/4/5 towards) cash two rhymes, with a refrain at the end of the stanzas 2 and 3 (which takes again to the first hémistiche worms 1).
Music
In Music, a rondo is a musical Forme, vocal at the beginning, alternating a refrain and several verses. The orthography “rondo” is allowed to only refer to its instrumental form, such as it appears at the 17th century.Of origin lyrico-choreographic and become poético-musical form, the rondo is treated polyphoniquement as of the 13th century by Adam of the Market and Jehan de Lescurel. Of all the kinds with fixed form, it is that which the musicians will longest take in music. Moreover, the rondo will become, with the turning of the 15th century, the musical form of predilection (with the detriment of the Ballade) in the profane music. Its form, until the end of the 15th century, is the following one:
(where the elements has and B constitutes the literary and musical refrain, and tiny the has and B the musical resumptions of the sections has and B with other words).
The French musicians of the time baroque make a frequent use of the principle of the rondo, applied to the dances of the continuation (Gavotte in rondo, Menuet in rondo, etc).
Dance
In traditional Dance, the rondo is a Danse of Gascogne. There exist several forms of rondo according to the geographical area:- in the Landes the dancers form chains from 4 to 5 dancers
- in the south of the the Gironde, the north of the Moors and the North-West of the Département of Lot-et-Garonne, the dancers dance in couple; the style of the dance is slipped and swaying
- in the Gers the rondo is danced to two and its style is sharper than in north
- finally, in Lomagne one finds a form of intermediate dance between the form landaise (chains of 4 or 5 dancers) and forms it gersoise, from which it borrows the step.
