Ronchin

Ronchin is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called the Buntings or Ronchinois.

Known at the 9th century under the name of Rumcinium, the etymological root of the name of the city is the same one as that of the word “Ronce”.

Geography

Bordering on the towns of Lille in north, Lezennes in the east, Lesquin in the south and Annoy-Thumesnil in the west. Its altitude is higher than that of Lille.

History

Traces of settlement before our era, the city is crossed by old Roman ways. Rumcinium : Field of the Abbey of Marchiennes at the 9th century (diploma of the emperor Charles II the Bald person with the French Public records, gone back to 877 confirming the goods of the abbey), the city was burned by the Lorrains in 1640, occupied by the troops of the sun king in 1650, devastated by the Peste in 1663.

With the doors of Lille, it shared the fate of its powerful neighbor and undergoes all the by-effects of the seats and combat which were devoted to it. Important industrial rise with XIXè. Between the years 1950 and 1960, the 2 parts of Ronchin, were joined together by a big number of houses which constitute the City gardens. In the Seventies of constructions were established with the locality " The Field of Cerf" and constitute one 4th district of the city. Since 1990 a fifth district was built on the heights dominant the field of the stag.

Lille tries to absorb Ronchin since the Seventies, but its population is opposite there.

Striking facts

Exceptional fact, Michel LAIGNEL could not finish its last mandate following a legal decision. January 29th, 2004, he was condemned for illegal catch of interest, forgery and use of forgery in public writing (transmission of false reports of council to the prefecture about a subsidy allotted to his/her daughter) and favoritism (in particular of the company of BTP managed by one of its sons). The judgment was confirmed in call on June 15th, 2005 (he was condemned to two one-year suspended sentences and two years of ineligibility). The judgment was confirmed after appeal to the Supreme Court on March 8th, 2006, following what it chose to resign.

  • Holy-Rictrude Church (12th century-16th century, classified with the Historic buildings by decree on October 12th, 1920). - Access to the documentary video on the Holy-Rictrude church.

  • Brewery Jeanne d' Arc (fine 19th century, old “Vandamme Brewery”). The Brasserie was repurchased by " Brewers of Gayant" (Douai) and renamed Brewery Grain of barley in July 2002. The site of the brewery arrété the production of Bière in 2005 while being devoted only to logistics.

The city has many equipment Sport yews: Golf and riding school, 3 stages, 7 halls sports, grounds of Tennis, swimming pool, center of shooting, Bowling, Dojo for the Martial arts.

Ronchin was elected the most sporting city of less than 20.000 inhabitants in France in 2000.

The city accommodates also the faculty of the sports depending on the university Lille II.
