Ron Refusals
Ron Dennis (born the 1 {{er}} June 1947 with Woking, Great Britain) is a British contractor, who directs the group McLaren (of which he is owner to a total value of 15%), known for his stable of Formule 1, like for its cars of road of very top-of-the-range.
Biography
Ron Dennis leaves the school at the 16 years age to exert the trade of apprenti-mécanicien in a garage close to the circuit of Brooklands. Quickly, it is integrated into the stable of Formule 1 Cooper, always in the capacity as mechanic. Affected with the car of the young hope Jochen Rindt, it leaves Cooper for Brabham at the same time as the Austrian pilot in 1968. The following year, in spite of the departure of Rindt for Lotus, Ron Dennis remains at Brabham, of which he east becomes chef-mécanicien.End 1970, Ron Dennis leaves Brabham to assemble its own structure, in partnership with Neil Trundle: Rondel Racing. Engaged in the championship of Europe of Formula 2 in 1971, Rondel Racing engages then of Brabham deprived for pilots such as Graham Hill, Tim Schenken or Bob Wollek. In 1973, Rondel Racing reaches the statute of manufacturer by designing his own car, Motul F2, of the name of the principal basic financial backer of the stable. Tom Pryce, the Welsh hope finishes 5th in Mantorp, then is classified 2nd in Norisring. In 1974, Ron Dennis plans to run in F1 with Pryce, and orders a study with aeronautical engineer Ray Jessop. But because of the oil crisis, the team loses the support of Motul, and must give up in-extremis with this project (which will be taken again by Tony Vlassopoulo and Ken Grob under the name Token F1).
After having directed in 1974 for the account of Marlboro a stable of Formula 2 with Ecuadorian connotation, Ron Dennis creates a new stable of Formula 2 in 1975: the Project Three (because after Rondel Racing and the Motul project, it is about its third project), then in 1976, Project Four, with the support of Marlboro. Implied on various floors of the automobile sport, the Project Four is not long acquiring its noble letters and in sitting the reputation of excellence of Ron Dennis. In 1979 then 1980, Project Four gains the British championship of Formula 3 (with Chico Serra then Stefan Johansson), and in 1979, Project Four also gains the championship PROCAR (a series which opposed the pilots of F1 on of BMW in opening of the GP) with Niki Lauda.
Ambitious, Ron Dennis tries once again to reach Formula 1, and engages for that the British engineer John Barnard, charged to conceive first F1 of the composite material history. Marlboro, which in addition is extremely dissatisfied with the results in freefall of the stable McLaren Formulates 1 of them, then tries to operate a bringing together between Project Four of Ron Dennis and the McLaren team (directed by Teddy Mayer). The marriage concretizes in November 1980 and gives rise to the group McLaren International, whose Ron Dennis becomes the strong man. It is since this fusion that the code name of the McLaren frames Formulates 1 of them begin with MP4 is Marlboro Project 4 . Since Marlboro sponsored more McLaren, i.e. since the season 1997, MP4 must rather be read like McLaren Project 4 .
Under the impulse of Ron Refusals, the McLaren team operates a spectacular return to the foreground, and connects the world titles of the pilots (Lauda in 1984, Prost in 1985, 1986 and 1989, Senna in 1988, 1990 and 1991) as well as manufacturers, with the motor mechanic Porsche (present via the group of investment TAG, become shareholder of McLaren), then Honda.
In 1990, with most extremely of the domination of McLaren-Honda, Ron Dennis founds McLaren Cars (become McLaren Automotive), a mark intended to create cars of road of very top-of-the-range.
After a bad patch in the middle of the Years 1990, McLaren finds the way of success thanks to its partnership with the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz which motorizes the British single-seaters since 1996 and which is shareholder of McLaren to a total value of 40% since 2000. With Mercedes, McLaren in particular gained the championship of the world of the pilots in 1998 and 1999 with Mika Hakkinen, and that of the manufacturers in 1998.
