Ronald Clarke , born the February 21st 1937 with Victoria, is old a Australian athlete , practitioner the Fond and Demi-fond.

Biography

Although recognized like one of the largest long-distance runners and medium-distance race during the years 1960s, he will never manage to obtain a gold medal at the time of a great championship. Thus it obtains a bronze medal with the Olympic Games of 1964 with Tokyo. For the following edition, he suffers from problems of altitude and finishes only with 5th and 6th places on 5.000 and 10.000 meters.

At the time of the Plays of the Commonwealth, it will fail the second place each time and will thus gain three money medals in three editions.

Its talent is however without discussion: it thus beats 17 world records during its career. Among those, on July 14th, 1965, it carried out the record of the 10.000 meters in 27:39.4

He also knew the honor, although being at the time only one young promising athlete, to be the carrier of the Olympic flame at the time of the edition of the Olympic Games of summer of 1956 with Melbourne. Then, at the time of the Plays of the Commonwealth of 2006 of Melbourne, it belongs to the four runners which carry the Queen' S Baton at the time of the opening ceremony.
