Romont is a town of Suisse and the Chef-lieu of the District of Glâne (in the Canton of Freiburg).
History
- the city is founded at the 10th century by the dukes of Burgundy.
- Its name comes from the Colline on which it is built.
- In 1240, Pierre II of Savoy strengthens the city: ramparts, castle, turns, collegial
- Collegial the Notre-Dame of the Assumption is set up in XIIIe century, destroyed mainly by a fire in 1434, then rebuilt. It is of Gothic style radiating and blazing.
- It belongs to the canton of Freiburg since 1536.
- In 1868, Romont amalgamates with the commune of Arruffens
- In 1981, it amalgamates with the commune of Glânes.
Geography
Romont is at an altitude of 707m (the station) and 780m (the Castle) for the hill. It is with 22km (as the crow flies) in the south-east of the capital of the canton: Freiburg.
Romont is located in the middle of the
Canton of Freiburg and of the French-speaking Switzerland
(between
Lausanne and
Bern).
Transport
Romont is located on the line CF
Lausanne -
Bern. The regional trains and intercity stop there. The travellers also have a correspondence in the train towards Bulle with the Public Transports Freibourgese. Various lines of bus also leave the station of Romont.
The access conveys some is done only by cantonal roads. Romont is located at approximately 15 kilometers of the network of the Swiss highways:
