Romenay is a common French, located in the department of Saône-et-Loire and the area Burgundy.

Geography

History

Romenay ( Latin Romanacum in ) would be certainly of Roman origin . The oldest act where Romenay figure is the donation made by Roy Burgonde Gondran, grandson of Clovis to the Saint-Vincent church of Mâcon, place of residence of the bishop of the time which was certain Nizier canonized thereafter. A street bears its name in Mâcon. For this remote time, the Paroisse of Romenay had thus belonged to the bishop S of Mâcon, Seigneur S of Romenay, the latest to date is Monseigneur Moreau who was relieved for the revolutionary period of 1789 with 1794. A splendid table of Monseigneur Moreau is visible with the museum of the Ursulines with Mâcon. The current town hall is installed in the old castle of the bishop. The schoolyard is also part of closed Château of the bishop, baron of Romenay, which extended to the current secondary road 975.

Economy

Romenay of today followed the evolution of all the Bresse generally, i.e. the small farms disappeared. The current owners raise Bovin S of race Charolaise, which are preceded with the Foire Easter, one of most important of the area. For the festivals of Pentecost, the festival Committee organizes the Fête of Chicken of Bresse which attract many visitors to so much taste chicken roasted with the pin, that to attend the variety show which animates the afternoon.

It should be said that Romenay, located at the limit of the Bresse Savoyarde and the Burgundian Bresse , has several breeding S of poultries of Bresse, poultries raised in accordance with the standards in force which make its fame of it. Romenay remains a small rural district which in 1937 was classified rural village of France and where it makes good things in life and to walk.

Places and monuments

  • the church of the 12th century borders the street of Colonel Pagand, old street with houses in wood sides and two main doors: the door of Occident and the door of the East, the latter being the property of the Friends of the Romenay Old man. One will note also vestiges of the defensive walls (out of red brick). The town planning of the village, a bit too morderne makes it possible however to still locate the trace of the plan which the village with the Middle Ages had: center circular, curcives streets…

  • association the Friends of the Old man Romenay manages two pond S in Chagne and Moiziat for the pleasure of the fishermen and the walkers.
