Rombas
Rombas is a common French, located in the department of the the Moselle and the area Lorraine.
Geography
The city is located in the low valley of the Orne on two natural areas: the Lorraine Plate and the Plates limestones of Lorraine or Coasts of the Moselle.
History
- the first human installations would date from the Paléolithique superior (- 15.000 BP) with the place says “the Rocks”.

Iron and steel industry
It is from 1881 that Rombacher Hüttenwerke undertakes the construction of the factory of Rombas, with the first two blast furnaces built between 1888 and 1890, then five others between 1893 and 1902. The blast furnace n° 8, put in building site in 1914, will be completed only in 1920. It was the first with being provided with a hoist of the Staeler-Gogotski type. In 1919, it is the Company of the Steel-works of Rombas which has the factories with Rombas and Maizières-the-Metz. In 1939, eight blast furnaces are with fire… In 1962, they can produce 3600 tons of cast iron per day. The loading of the matters is carried out by buckets for five of these blast furnaces and by double skip for the three others more modern (R5 with R7). Part of the blast furnaces of this division is extinct between 1975 and 1984.

- the Turn of Drince: located on the round of applause of the commune of Pierrevillers it dominates Rombas over the culminating point (399 m) between Metz and Thionville.
Personalities related to the commune
- Marie Hackin, Companion of the Release, was born in Rombas in 1905.
